Beautiful Colors June 16, 2010 Shawn Murphy (United States) The Universal Waite Tarot Deck is beautifully printed. The colors are much more vivid than on the Rider Waite, and the backs are nicer (Black with gold star bursts, instead of blue plaid). My main gripe is the US Game systems Copyright printed on the front of the cards. It totally destroys the feel and magic of the cards. I have many other decks that do not have the obnoxious copyright statement printed on them.
Not REALLY the Waite Tarot June 12, 2010 Bluesgal (Indianapolis, IN USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is not really the Waite Tarot. It is only based on the Waite Tarot.
Also, the cards have a slick feeling that I do not like.
If you know that these cards are not truly the Waite Tarot, maybe you will like them. I went by their name only, and so was disappointed. This should teach me to read the fine print.
The best of the Waite decks June 6, 2010 Graymalkin (Roanoke, VA United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It is not surprising that, of all the Tarot deck designs, the Waite deck has been - and remains - the most popular.
Having used the Rider-Waite deck for many years, I was looking for a new deck, and did a bit of comparison of the various Waite decks available.
While partial to the Rider-Waite, I have always thought the pen & ink strokes to be a bit bold, and the colors a touch too bright, with detail lost therein.
The Albano-Waite deck is a recoloring which suffers the same aesthetic problems as the Rider-Waite, with little improvement.
The Original Rider-Waite deck is appealing, with colors often being a bit more subtle, but essentially no different than the Rider-Waite.
The Radiant Rider-Waite deck, redrawn and recolored, I found appealing in the use of gradient colors and shading, producing a dimensional effect. This rates it as currently my second favorite Rider-Waite.
But, the grand prize, in my opinion, goes to the Universal Rider-Waite deck. The line strokes are finer, and the colors, while tasteful and clear, and comparing well with the Rider-Waite, are more subdued, allowing details to be revealed. This deck is beautifully colored by Mary Hanson-Roberts, creator of the Hanson-Roberts deck, which is my wife's favorite deck and, in itself, a beautiful interpretation of the Rider-Waite.
It's hard to improve upon a classic, but the Universal Rider-Waite deck does just that, with a near-perfect balance of subtlety and brightness, color and detail.
I would recommend Rider-Waite over all other Tarot decks, and the Universal as the finest of the Rider-Waite decks.
Tried and true..... June 1, 2010 Marisa Nova 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted a set of cards that were something I could easily learn and understand. These cards are the Standard from what I have read and seen. Large, colorful, and a bit of history thrown in.

The cards are wonderful but the book is absolutely positively confusing. I had much better luck with a booklet that came with another set of cards I bought.
